Currently based in Northamptonshire the rural setting provides inspiration for scenes depicting forms in nature and the atmospheres of changing time. River landscapes of the Nene and Welland Valleys and Georgian architecture around Oundle and Stamford have featured in recent work - the latter harking back to earlier oil paintings of Piccadilly. Colour and architecture are investigated through figurative pieces with determined brushstrokes and a powerful sense of light(The Dolby Gallery).
Painting loosely in oil or watercolour and sketching in pencil and pastel have been the media of choice for over 20 years. Trained as both a painter and film maker, a wealth of photographic recordings also contribute observations and insights into history, portraiture and other subjects adding depth to the body of work. Of late, large monotypes of architectural detailing harness printmaking processes to capture the textures and minutiae of stone gargoyles and wood carved heralds, whilst encouraging the expressive
mark making displayed in drawings and paintings.
Other notable events and partnerships include: Working in collaboration with Tate Gallery Sculpture Restoration Dept. and the British Council alongside the renowned Pop Artist Sir Eduardo Paolozzi in the restoration of his sculpture for the 20th Century British Sculpture exhibition at The Tuileries Garden, Paris. Contributions to art education include:
A lecture tour of universities in the United States; collaborating with Tate Modern to develop a manifesto for creative education presented to the Secretary of State for Education; an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery through the Sunday Telegraph and Saatchi Gallery Secondary Schools Competition.
